Public transport
Metro - Underground The Lisbon underground railway, recently remodelled and extended, presently runs beneath a large tract of the city. The new stations have been built to designs by some of the best-known national architects and artists. The Metro, as it is known, has four lines identified by names and colours that permit one to quickly arrive at the historical centre of the city and visit different points of interest. At rush hour, it is always the best option.
Buses, Trams and Lifts Journeying above ground is the best way to get to know the city. Should you decide to take the Trams or Lifts you will be treated to splendid scenery reflecting many authentic aspects of the city.
Trains and Ferry Boats It is also possible to get to know Lisbon by train, which is the more convenient means of travelling through the surroundings. The lines of CP – Comboios de Portugal serving Lisbon are: Lisboa/Sintra – from Rossio and Oriente stations. Lisboa/Cascais – from Cais do Sodré station. Ponte 25 de Abril/Fogueteiro (on the south riverbank) – from Entrecampos station.
Ferryboats equally take you across the river. The following are the most direct connections: Parque das Nações - Seixal Parque das Nações – Cacilhas Terreiro do Paço - Cacilhas Belém - Trafaria
